Do you remember when you got saved?
Maybe you don't have time to remember...what with all the stuff that distracts. We can't deny that there is much to distract us. All the STUFF. Just thinking about stuff ~ what we will eat, or wear, or do today is enough to keep us distracted our entire life.
Before we know it, all the STUFF of life swallows us up and we either faint with exhaustion or never get to the real meaning of life.
The real meaning? To know God.
But how do we know God?
Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Romans 1:19, 20
It is such a beautiful time of year. The vegetables are starting to pop up out of the ground. The trees are heavy with bright young leaves. The eggs are hatching in all the little nests surrounding our apartment. It is all so alive...but nothing is alive like us ~ you and me with our independent will.
I recently read this:
"...all of creation was under the absolute, pre-programmed control of God. It
was mechanical-fixed to precise innate laws. The physical universe did not have
the capacity to make choices. All turns of events were the direct act of God.
There was no possibility of anything violating His will. No will existed outside
His own." By Divine Design, Michael Pearl
But then we came along...
God breathed into Adam, the breath of life and he became a living being, made in the image of God. We have a will. We can do whatever we want. It's amazing really. Can the wind decide where it will blow? Can the ocean decide how far it will come over the shore? Can a fish decide it would like to live on land for a while?
No. However, WE can go to the moon, tame animals, talk to people on the other side of the world with an invention called a telephone...AMAZING. There is nothing we cannot do.
What is it all for? It is for the Lord. To know Him and His greatness.
Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised and his greatness is unsearchable. Psalm 145:3
But, usually we use our will for our own selves. We live to please ourselves, to know ourselves and to have others know us.
Where does all this self stuff lead? - to death - and not because God is wicked, but because that is not why we were created. We were not created for ourselves, but for God.
This is why we get so unhappy. The new dress only satisfies for a moment. The great friends eventually disappoint us. The super thrill leaves us wanting another super thrill.
But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand. Isaiah 64:8
Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour? Romans 9:21
Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. Rev 4:11
God is so good.
The Bible says that the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23
- Sin is going our own way ~ our will over God's will.
- Wages is something we earn. We have to do something to get it. We have to sin to earn death...and we have all earned it.
- God has a wonderful gift for us. You cannot earn a gift. It is given out of love. That gift is eternal life...only He cannot give it to us. He is Holy. We are not.
Jesus, our Saviour, stands in the way...passing God's gift to us. We receive it and have eternal life.Do you remember the day you were saved...when you accepted that gift from God through Jesus? Now you can know the God who made you...you can fulfill your purpose.
Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
2 Peter 1:2-4
