We're Home!

The sky is grey and the rain has been coming down here and there all day, sometimes in torrents and sometimes in sprinkles. The sound of the wind blowing through the birch trees and maples comforts me like the presence of a good friend.

A big pot of ham and beans simmers on the stove and a strawberry-peach pie bakes in the oven.

All that is left to do is to put a clean cloth on the table and set out all the pretty blue and white china plates my mother gave me.

Soon three dark eyed beautiful children and a tired man will come tramping in the house - leaving their shoes and dirt at the door for a little comfort of their own. It doesn't seem to matter to them that the shoe shelf is right by the door - shoes still get strewn all over the place. That's O.K. It means everyone is home and safe.

Today, in church, our pastor talked about how we are "called." He used the example of a family being called to dinner as an illustration. The mother can call out "dinner's ready!" Or she could send one of the children to tell each person individually. We could be called to dinner because of the smells coming from the kitchen. Maybe we are called to dinner because of the rumbling in our stomach.

In what way have you been called? Have you heard the call? or do you feel it in the pit of your stomach? You gonna answer and come and eat?

Taste and see that the Lord is good...Psalm 34:8
