Just thinking about how Hot it is.

We're having a heat wave!

It can be miserable to be hot. Yesterday, I was bringing my children home from vacation Bible school -1:00 in the afternoon - the sun a powerful, Hot force beating down on us - driving in traffic a beat-up old van with no air conditioning - each stop light an opportunity for me to practice long-suffering. We came home and had popsicles for lunch and then we had cherries, nectarines and popsicles for dinner.

The apartment was stifling all night- so hot - making it uncomfortable to sleep.

Being Hot is uncomfortable. We want relief. But God says that he wants us to be that way - NOT comfortable - spiritually speaking.

I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I WOULD THOU WERT HOT OR COLD. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: Rev 3:15-17

It's when we "have need of nothing and do not know that we are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked" that we are lukewarm.

Consider this ~

Do you know your need? Are you living your life confident in your plans and your stuff and your future? If so then you are pretty easy to be around. Comfortable. No one is offended by you. Your life doesn't make anyone uncomfortable - doesn't make anyone recognize need or desire. That's good for you - easy and comfortable - for NOW.

But God says that he will "spue thee out of my mouth."

Yikes. Thank you Lord for this heat and for the lessons you teach us through your creation.

  1. How hot was it exactly?

  2. Hot enough to have a desire for RELIEF.
